Sugar Surfing March 2018 Newsletter: The Quiver

This is the March Newsletter for Dynamic Diabetes Management Inc. (DDM)

February books

Over 300 books (print and eBooks) were sold or distributed in February. The complimentary eBook offer provided over 25 books to newly diagnosed adults and families of children from across the globe. A shipment of 1,000 books will be replenishing our supplies at the Amazon warehouse. We may have a few days without books available on Amazon. International print book sales will continue and not be interrupted. This short hiatus is the consequence of robust book sales over the past several months. Please remember that scam artists are also able to post book sales on Amazon. Our book is $29.95 for the print book and this will not change.

New webmaster, Chris Hopkins

Chris Hopkins is our new webmaster. He has been revising the layout of the webpage and doing considerable behind the scenes work. A more comprehensive overhaul of the page is coming in the months ahead. Expect more multi-media from Dr. Ponder too. Chris is a gifted and talented addition to the DDM team.

Executive Director, Patsy Ponder

Patsy Ponder will be the new Executive Director of Dynamic Diabetes Management. Patsy was an editor of the book Sugar Surfing. She has a degree in nursing and is also a health care attorney. She practiced as a pediatric nurse for many years before becoming a lawyer and has worked in several capacities in administrative health care and risk management. Patsy will transition to this new role over the next few months. She will be writing grants, responding to messages in the Surf Colony, and building the DDM Board of Directors in the months to come.

Best wishes to Kevin McMahon

Sugar Surfing co-author Kevin McMahon is taking on new challenges. He has recently opened a brewery in the San Francisco Bay Area. Consequently , Kevin has stepped down from the DDM board of directors. We wish Kevin well in the next chapter of his life. He will still be available and may post his insights from time to time.

The February 3rd 2018 Sugar Surfing Workshop in Houston was attended by ~125 registrants. The next live workshop is scheduled March 10th in Los Angeles. The LA event is almost filled. An AADE Workshop in Connecticut is scheduled for March 27th and will be a Webex broadcast. For a full list of approved workshops, click on the workshops tab. 2018 is now almost fully booked for Sugar Surfing workshops. We are now accepting inquiries and offers from local organizer champions for 2019 events. Contact if you are interested in sponsoring or hosting a Sugar Surfing Workshop.

Spanish translation of Sugar Surfing. Most of the book has undergone a first draft Spanish translation. This was driven by a volunteer who wishes to remain anonymous now. There are secondary reviewers editing chapters now. There is still more work to be done.

Sugar Surfing University Courseware. Chapter 7 has been converted into a prototype e-learning module. DDM purchased a one year license to use the Versal platform to develop Sugar Surfing into an online course. The prototype module will be shared as part of a crowdsourcing effort to develop the entire course. Sugar Surfing ‘graduates’ will be able to assess their knowledge of dynamic diabetes management, take quizzes and be able to print certificates of completion of the coursework. Very exciting. Donations will be needed.

Brochure. A Sugar Surfing brochure is in development. It will serve as a visual summary of concepts and methods.
